The decision in Masterpiece Cakeshop Ltd. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission was announced this morning. At the time of the announcement, there was just the usual media setup and school groups and a few other people, since most people had not expected a decision this early in June. The ACLU quickly organized a rally, and the speakers and signs and people arrived within the hour. The speakers represented a variety of advocacy groups and religious organizations.
There was great sadness but also hope in the narrowness of the decision, and many of us trying to read parts of the decision quickly to try to understand a 7-2 decision that would cause Kagan and Breyer to concur with the majority.
