Fiesta DC, on September 17th, was a great pageant of colors and costumes along Constitution Avenue.

In the strong mid-day summer heat, not too many animals are outside at the National Zoo, but it is an opportunity to look at some of the smaller animals indoors at the Reptile Center and at Amazonia. And there is always a crowd watching the sea lions:

The festival, on two blocks of 17th St., was much smaller than in previous years, and no longer had the usual stage but instead had some roving performers.
Today is the 100th birthday of the founding of the National Park Service, and in celebration NPS staged a massive version of their logo on the Mall. On summer Sundays, tango dancers congregate at Freedom Plaza. With the Capitol in the distance and the evening light, it combines for a wonderfully romantic scene. And the shoes are amazing!
